Playwright in Residence

Playwright Paul Meade intends to capture the stories of the New York Irish community and create a play, titled My Heart in Two Pockets, inspired by their memories. The unifying idea for the play is a suitcase; the suitcase can contain universes.
This is a collaborative project that has at its heart engagement with the Irish community in New York. The New York Irish Center has committed to producing a full production of the play in New York. Thanks to our partners Brassneck Theatre, Belfast and The Wexford Arts Center, as part of the development process the play will receive public readings in both cities.
Paul Meade is an award-winning playwright and has produced in Ireland and internationally. He is an experienced teacher, director and facilitator and has strong experience of working with community groups through his company Gúna Nua. He has written and directed numerous plays, winning several awards in each category.

This residency is made possible with the support of the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, the Irish national agency for funding, developing and promoting the arts.
