Our Helplines

We provide two helplines for the community:

1) a general helpline: it is vital to have an Irish Center where people in the community know they can get any help they may want or need, day or night. We provide confidential assistance to anyone who contacts our toll-free Helpline 1-877-ERIN-HELP (1-877-374-6435).

and

2) the Senior Helpline, now renamed "SENIOR CONNECT", is a collaborative effort operated in conjunction in the Bronx with Emerald Isle Immigration and the Aisling Center.  This project is directly funded by the Irish Goverment, and involves Seniors helping Seniors.  Senior volunteers are on hand for any Senior in our community who feels isolated and just needs someone to talk to.  The project is modeled on a successful initiative in Ireland.  As of October 12 2009, the helpline operates:

Monday and Friday, 4pm to 6pm

and

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 4pm to 8pm.

Senior Help Line USA

The New York Irish Center in partnership with the Emerald Isle Immigration Center, the Aisling Irish Center, manages the Senior Help Line USA which provides an opportunity for older people to call and talk to a sympathetic listener of their own age group about common concerns or worries - or just to have a friendly chat.

The Senior Help Line USA is an extension of the Seniors Helpline service in Ireland, and was officially launched by Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Michael Martin, at the Center on May 7th, 2009. The helpline is staffed entirely by volunteers.
