Senior Citizens Lunch Club

This currently takes the form of a Lunch and Afternoon Social Club. A number of Irish restaurants and caterers donate the meals on a rotating basis (thank you!) The Club meets on Wednesday afternoons, from 1 to 4 pm.

The club members also choose a program of their choice from a number of options: music and dance, games, outings, talks on healthy eating, exercise, finance, Medicare, insurance etc. We will also have a hairdresser, a nurse, a podiatrist, etc. on occasion. Other programs offered to senior citizens include routine medical prevention, board games, and yoga/aerobics. There will also be a "25" card game after each Wednesday's lunch.

Access-a Ride is used by some members who cannot easily travel on the subway. If you need this service, please call the Center for information, or visit the MTA's website at http://www.mta.info/mta/ada/paratransit.htm#access.

A quiet game  with a friend ...

...or a lively meal with many friends!

Caregivers And Toddlers

This group meets on Mondays from 2pm to 5pm and Thursdays from 10:30am to 2pm. The caregivers organize all kinds of play for the children. It is not just for the toddlers! An emigrant away from parents, sisters, and neighbors can be very isolated and away from all the normal family and community support. Here they support one another.

Applications are welcome – old friends and new - please click here to contact us if you are interested in joining this group.

Irish Language Classes

Acting Classes (Irish Theater and More)

Ever dream of becoming the next Liam Nielson or Roma Downey? Well now's your chance!

Beginning late October 2007, our resident expert instructor, Pat Mahoney (Director of the recent performances of “Big Maggie” and “Moll” at the Center) will host acting classes at the Center. The classes will run full-time or part-time from October to April.

Pat has expertise in Irish drama, Shakespeare and Modern Drama, and has 30 years experience in the NYC area.

Classes will cover reading from the classics (Shakespeare, Yeats) and modern drama (O’Casey, Keane, Synge, Behan, Beckett, et al), study techniques (method), interpret texts (scene study), learning the “business” of acting (audition prep, resumes), and improvisation (dramatic and comedic).

The class will take place on Thursdays from 6pm to 7:30pm, and is open to Adults from 18 years to 118 years old. All skill levels are welcome, with individual attention where needed, and all students participate. The rates are affordable - and it's Fun and Educational! Class auditing is encouraged (i.e. you can sit in on a sample class).

To enroll contact Pat send an e-mail to: CelticTheaterUSA@aol.com or call the Center on (718) 482-0909.
