Dear AUTOFILL_FIRSTNAME,
It's that time of year again, when the long hot New York summer descends upon us and we look for ways to enjoy some sunshine. Around here, we'll be getting busy with the installation of a much-needed elevator, and in July we'll have the first of our Irish Movie Nights. Read on for more information on these, plus other news.
Stay Cool!

AS ALWAYS, LOTS HAPPENING!
Over the summer and into the autumn we will be crunching through our construction project. We are installing an elevator to serve all four floors of our building. The job has been approved by the City of New York Dept. of Buildings (DOB) and the MTA. Preliminary preparation work has already begun with more serious demolition scheduled for early July. Fortunately, we will be able to keep large sections of the building open and operating throughout. There will be some inconveniences but it will be worth it!
This project has been made possible by capital grants from the Irish Government, and from State Assemblywomen Marge Markey and Cathy Nolan, along with the generous support of community leaders in the construction trades.

We cover the following epic legends - Cúchulainn : The Cattle Raid of Cooley : Fionn and the Fianna : The Children of Lir : Oisín in the Land of Youth : Grace O’Malley- The Pirate Queen. So if you have kids looking to escape from the heat of July and August for a bit, check out the curriculum. There is even interest in providing the class to adults.

THE BIG APPLE BRANCH
(An Craobh Úll Mór)
|
|
At their annual "Friends of Úll Mór" Dinner & Céilí in May, the Big Apple Branch of CCÉ (Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann) honored the New York Irish Center for providing a great venue for their activities. Each month, the Big Apple Branch holds a céilí* on a Saturday night at the Center, and a seisiún** on a Sunday afternoon. In turn, the Center would like to thank them, especially Maureen Donachie and Cathy Hornberger, for bringing such wonderful Irish music and dance here. Catch the Big Apple Branch on Facebook to learn more about all they do in the region.
*A céilí (pronounced kay-lee) is the Gaelic equivalent of ballroom dancing, where sets of traditional dances are performed to live music.
**A seisiún (pronounced sesh-oon) is the Gaelic/Irish word for 'session', and refers to a free-flowing rendition of Irish traditional music, and sometimes dancing, under the guidance of a seisiún leader.
